What are Total Dissolved Solids – TDS 

The whole meaning of TDS is (Total dissolved solid). Therefore, all solid substances dissolved in water, like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc., are tested together in the water.

The unit of this TDS is ppm (parts per million) per millilitre of water. Suppose you test the TDS of pure water in your home and get 150 TDS.

When you check the TDS for dirty water in the drain, there will be more TDS than usual because that water already has more dissolved substances. In other words, the amount of TDS in our water for drinking water will be less. That water is just as safe for our human body.

How to measure water TDS –

In 1 litre of water – 300 mg. TDS or less = Excellent

In 1 litre of water – 300 to 600 mg. TDS = Good

In 1 litre of water – 800 to 900 mg. TDS = Drinkable 

In 1 litre of water – 900 to 1200 mg. TDS = Insecure

1 liter of water – 1200 <or more TDS = Unacceptable.

Even if these substances are present in more than 300 ppm of water, they will not endanger health.

We need plenty of electrolytes or minerals to manage all the internal functions of the body properly. Even then, the World Health Organization claims that it is not more than 300 ppm. “What minerals do they mean by 300 ppm?” What are the consequences if we take heavy substances at 300 ppm?”

The answer is not. Diarrhoea is caused by protozoa or bacterial infections, the hepatitis virus responsible for jaundice, and the baby needs a little more iron than usual to develop during pregnancy. However, it is possible to stay healthy even if you do not take these minerals through the water. Patients with diarrhoea or jaundice should eat foods rich in saline or other valuable minerals as the body loses electrolyte balance.

As we know, Reverse Osmosis has a reduced rate of up to 97% for drinking water. That is why it removes 97% of all particles from water. If the raw TDS is 100, then TDS in RO will be 3. Similarly, if the row TDS is 1000, then TDS RO will be 30. But we must remember that all the RO water purifiers have the same reduction rate. If the reduction rate is considered at 95%, then it will keep only 5% of light particles of water.
